Middle Street Food and Coffee

It’s how you deal with difficulty that sets you apart …

Having been told about this cafe by a friend I decided to mosey on across to Hadfield to check it out. Set in a tiny shop with enough room for a couple of tables and a window bench seat, Middle Street Food and Coffee is pleasantly decorated, including a small selection of items for sale.

Paleo – Sex in a Pan

Trying to find new treats that are low carb … you usually end up in the Paleo section of the web.

This one from Grok Grub appealed as it had a number of layers and looks rather lush. How can you go past a recipe called Sex in a Pan!

It was pretty amazing, but so so rich … we could only have a small amount a time due to the amount of fats. We are talking Shortening, Coconut Milk, Cashew butter.

I calculated that each serve would be 148 calories … and these are small pieces, definitely a ‘sometimes’ food.

Paleo chocolate mousse

So very simple … So very yummy … The only trick with the paleo stuff is the high fat content … My opinion is that you really need to follow it most/all of the time otherwise if you eat carbs plus the coconut milk/ avocado raw foods you are likely to stack on weight.

But as a treat … Currently chilling in fridge … I bring you …

Awesome resource discovered

I have discovered a great new food blog full of great low sugar recipes for kids … Named … Pretty straightforward title 😉

I am planning on trying out the marshmallows this weekend … Rather excited.

Carrot cupcakes minus the sugar

On the lookout for a way to use up some soft oranges I was trawling through sugar free recipes for orange and almond cakes and stumbled across I Quit Sugar’s Carrot cupcakes .

I abandoned my orange cake search purely as the carrot cakes had the word ‘frosting’ in the title.

I used organic flour rather than the gluten free one in the recipe… Mainly as I only had the one option in the pantry … Other than coconut flour which reacts rather differently to the average flour options.

Anywhooo … The mix was very wet but baked rather well, they are solid but not hard … Next time I would mix it less and try a different flour.

They are not very sweet at all, I used less than the recommended amount of the Rice Malt Syrup but there is enough there to make these a little treat after dinner.

One to have in the repertoire …

Garlic V Honey – Ashmore Seafood and Steak

I was advised that I HAD TO GO HERE … HAD TO

2012-07-02 20.33.362012-07-02 19.47.132012-07-02 19.46.392012-07-02 19.46.43

So I went … I am not too sure what I can say … it is a total experience. The menu is MASSIVE and filtered by categories such as ‘Garlic Vs Honey’ and ‘From the Stockyard’.

I have read the reviews on Urban Spoon and Tripadvisor (with Tripadvisor being rather more positive than Urban Spoon, maybe most people on TripAdvisor are tourists and in great holiday moods?).

But next time I am near I will likely go again, yep .. It could be my guilty, guilty pleasure.

Tofu is edible

In an effort to cut down red meat we have been experimenting with tofu and the like … I was rather happy with this tonight.

Kale with satay tofu and Slim Pasta noodles … Huge bowl = under 350 calories and minimal carbs.
